I had the opportunity to shadow a waste collection team in Parapat city. Three trucks (3~4 members each) collect and transport 2 truckloads a day to the landfill. Waste is not separated, so there is more to collect and transport. Mixed waste cannot be composted or recycled. It is all waste. Waste separation would reduce the amount going to landfill (saving labor, fuel, and landfill space), and make recycling and composting possible (creating value and protecting the environment).
Waste is collected from all houses, everyday. That is a lot of mileage.
Waste is not separated at home. Organics, plastic, bottles, paper, everything is mixed together and hauled away.
It all ends up at a nearby landfill, where it creates no value.
